Arrecife will celebrate this coming Friday, September 6, the first civil wedding with the application of the new municipal ordinances that professionalizes the organization of these celebrations. The Municipal Government published on August 7, in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, the entry into force of the new municipal tax ordinances that regulate this activity of civil marriages. The celebration and organization of weddings has been professionalized, which in many areas is experiencing a significant boom as a complement to the destination.
Thus, knowing that it is an "emerging tourist modality", the Department of Tourism, led by Councilor Eli Merino, has developed a strategy so that many couples of bride and groom can opt for the capital of Lanzarote to seal their marriage. During these past months, work has been done to "shape" these enormous possibilities that are opening up in the city of Arrecife.
After the modification of the ordinances, couples can opt for beautiful places to get married in the surroundings of La Recova, the Music Kiosk - on the José Ramírez Cerdá Park - the area of Charco de San Ginés - under the beautiful shade of the large ficus in the Rincón del Aguaresio, with a great seafaring and historical accent of Arrecife - or the Islote de La Fermina, where the footprint of César Manrique, the favorite son of Arrecife and Lanzarote, is very present, which also includes a gastronomic offer and has extended its opening hours during weekends.
Eli Merino recalled that, until now, the municipal ordinances were very rigid and did not allow these new options, which will make it possible for the bride and groom, together with their families and friends, to immortalize this important day in their lives in places with charm and history of Arrecife.
Parallel to this new line that the Department of Tourism has opened, the organization of civil marriages in Arrecife will have a set set for these special moments. In addition, and optionally, from the Department of Tourism of Arrecife, through Turismo Arrecife, the future bride and groom will be offered the possibility of hiring a firm specialized in weddings for the organization and production of all the parallel details (trips, stays, restaurants, cars, and extra decorations, among others...).
Arrecife, a city by the sea with many possibilities
Eli Merino recalled that wedding tourism is emerging in the tourism sector, consolidating itself in different destinations, mainly in those where the climate can be benign at any time of the year, and where there is good air or sea connectivity. It is a segment, with high purchasing power, and an expanding type of tourism, and with a great future, which brings high social and economic benefits to the destination, due to the impacts it generates.
The Arrecife City Council recalls that all these new enclaves can be chosen by the bride and groom for the celebration of their civil wedding when they submit the municipal application. Some places that are a few steps from hotels or restaurants, where attendees can walk, from the point of the official celebration, to where they prefer to offer guests moments of banquets or family celebrations.
In addition, Arrecife, as the capital of Lanzarote, is very close to the César Manrique Lanzarote airport, less than 6 minutes by car, and offers a double advantage, the cruise port. More than 500,000 cruise passengers arrive at the port each year, and it is located in the nerve center of the Arrecife maritime front, very close to these new proposals from the Arrecife City Council for the celebration of civil weddings in the municipality.
It is known that many families plan, nationally and internationally, the celebration of weddings coinciding with vacations in that destination. And Arrecife, as the capital of Lanzarote, can emerge very strengthened from this new strategy of Turismo Arrecife.
The Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Sports, and spokesperson for the PP group in the Arrecife City Council, Eli Merino, will officiate this coming Friday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m., inside La Recova, the first civil wedding with this new approach of the Municipal Government presided over by Mayor Yonathan de León, who is committed to boosting Arrecife as the capital of events.
