A specimen of stingray was found dead on Monday morning on Guacimeta beach, in Playa Honda. As can be seen in the image, municipal workers from the San Bartolomé City Council proceeded to remove it.
This species of ray is the most abundant in the Canary Islands and are usually found in sandy areas, usually buried in it. It feeds on invertebrates such as mollusks, crustaceans and small fish.
It is large in size, reaching 2.5 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, while the tail is 1.5 times longer than the body length. In it there is a poisonous spine, which can cause very painful wounds if stepped on.
