A hundred students from Lanzarote participate in the Canary Islands School Reading Congress

The Assembly Hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote hosted last Friday, April 19, the II Congress of Reading and School Writing of the Canary Islands where nearly a hundred students from different schools on the island participated.

The event, organized by the General Directorate of Management of Education, Inclusion and Innovation of the Government of the Canary Islands, was attended by teachers and students from IES Teguise, CEO Playa Blanca, CEIP La Vegueta, CEIP Soo, CEIP Nazaret, as well as the CEP of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

The island councilor of Education, Ascensión Toledo, who received the students, stressed that "the main objective of these conferences is to promote reading among students and enhance the knowledge of the authors and participating authors, as well as the reading of their works." She also added that "it is a great opportunity for both students and their families to enrich themselves with cultural learning."

In the II Congress of Reading and School Writing of the Canary Islands, the authors chosen by the students have been Miguel Aguerralde, from Lanzarote and Loida González, from Fuerteventura. Several professionals from different fields also participated in the event, such as the pedagogical advisor in the Area of Communication, Libraries and School Radios and coordinator of the activity, Zebensui Rodríguez; the coordinator of the projects and programs of the Innovation Area of the Ministry of Education, Elena Díaz; the coordinator of the Area of Communication, Libraries and School Radios, María de las Nieves Domínguez, and the deputy director of the CEP Puerto del Rosario, Ylenia de León.

Also collaborating were other advisors from the CEP, such as Luz María Duque Dorta, Antonia López Alonso, Gloria Alemán Sánchez and Jesús Martín Jiménez. The event concluded with a performance by the choir of CEIP Zerolo.
