Groups linked to 20A from all over the Canary Islands have initiated a process of collecting proposals for the change of economic and social model to "improve people's lives, respect the territory and put life at the center" and urge the Canarian Government to create a negotiating table. This was reported in a press release, signed by several environmental associations.
The success of the mobilizations, under the slogan Canarias has a limit, and in which, according to the organizers, "the people expressed the need to defend our land and idiosyncrasy", has served as an impulse to "continue taking steps and promote a participatory process", Canarias Palante, in which they will collect proposals to promote a change of model.
A large group of groups from the Archipelago have decided to promote a participatory process whose first action will be a form where they will collect all the ideas "that our people have to do things better in the Canary Islands, because the only way to do it well is by doing it all together". This will be the first action of a process that aims to develop a roadmap to guide the negotiation of that model from the street and in the institutional space.
On the one hand, the groups will request the urgent creation of a negotiating table with the competent administrations in which spokespersons of the groups will be present to transfer "the proposals and procedures collected from the contributions of the scientific community, professionals from different fields and citizens in general".
On the other hand, to be addressed urgently by this working table, the environmental associations have proposed the implementation of the ecotax, the tourist moratorium, the regulation of the purchase of housing by non-residents and the paralysis of projects that do not comply with urban planning or environmental regulations. "This request will be submitted by entry registration to the presidency of the Canary Islands Government," they reported.
Finally, they have encouraged the population to "continue individual and collective action, to continue occupying our spaces, our beaches, our land, because it is our home and the Canary Islands has a limit. Canarias Palante is an open participatory process that has already been joined by the following groups and is open to more joining":
