A taxi driver has reported suffering a violent robbery while on duty in Arrecife. The events occurred at approximately 06:20 hours last Thursday, on the Rambla Medular, near the El Salinero Theater, in the capital of Lanzarote.
According to the complainant's testimony, he was parked at a traffic light in the area when two young foreigners approached, requesting to be taken to La Santa. The taxi driver told them that he "would take them" and asked them to pay in advance. At that moment, he proceeded to open the vehicle for them to get in.
At that instant, surprisingly, three more young people appeared, according to the complainant. "They started opening all the doors of the vehicle and hitting the man with punches and kicks." In addition, "one of the aggressors grabbed the mobile phone that the taxi driver had in his left hand, and immediately, all the assailants fled running through the streets behind the Insular Library of Arrecife." The man tried to protect himself from the aggressors while asking for help from the passersby who were walking in the area, but he could not escape the blows.
After seeing them escape, the taxi driver tried to chase them in his vehicle, but lost sight of them in the streets near the Red Cross building. Just at that moment, the aggressors realized that the taxi was chasing them, grabbed some stones and threw them at the car. An action that caused damage to the vehicle, scratching the car's paint in several parts, such as on one of the front doors and the trunk door.
That same morning, the victim went to the Valterra health center to request a medical report. In the health report, the doctors certified that he suffered "abrasions on his left forearm." Afterward, the affected party filed the corresponding complaint with the Police. Regarding the stolen object, in the victim's words, the value of the mobile phone would be around 1,700 euros.
Another assault in the same morning
In addition, La Voz has learned that an hour before on Thursday in the same area, another man suffered a robbery in the capital of Lanzarote. Apparently, a young man asked him for a light to light a cigarette, at which point other young people appeared, and after a struggle, they stole his mobile phone.
From the National Police, they have confirmed to the newspaper that they are investigating the two events to find the whereabouts of the aggressors.
