The flames were spreading, reaching more than two meters in height. The clock had just passed 11:20 PM on Wednesday night when firefighters from the Lanzarote Safety and Emergency Consortium received the alert that an abandoned house was on fire.
The events took place on La Inés street, in the center of Arrecife, where two homeless people were sleeping, unaware that a fire had started around them. This was narrated by the manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
Two young people were taking shelter from the cold in this abandoned property, which had been boarded up by the City Council, but which had an entrance through the roof that allowed access to its interior.
The two disoriented young people were rescued by the Consortium firefighters, who used a ladder to access the property and get them out alive.
One of the affected people could barely stand, so one of the officers had to pick her up in their arms as she descended the stairs and place her on the ground.
