Two women were injured, one of them seriously, in an accident that occurred at the Cabildo roundabout, when the floats of the Arrecife Carnival Coso were being removed. The event took place at around 1 a.m., when one of the floats left the "marked path", according to the City Council, and became "entangled with the electrical wiring", causing a public lighting pole to fall.
The pole fell on two women, one of them an ambulance driver, who were collaborating with the Carnival's security and emergency device. One of them only suffered trauma to her shoulder and was discharged that same night, but the other suffered serious injuries, receiving a blow to the head, and remains admitted to the Jos Molina Orosa Hospital. "She is evolving favorably," they specify from the Consistory, which had not reported this event until now.
According to them, the accident occurred when the floats were being removed, already in the early hours of the morning. "The place where they had to pass was marked," they say, pointing out that for reasons that are unknown, the driver of one of the floats "turned to the other side." It was at that moment when it became entangled with the lighting and caused the pole to fall.
From the City Council they emphasize that "all the insurances were up to date", including that of the float that generated the accident, and they defend that this year precautions had been extreme in this sense, to the point that "one of the floats did not even get to leave because it did not have the appropriate measures".
