Two people were injured this Tuesday in a robbery that took place in a jewelry store in Arrecife, located between Blas Cabrera Street and Argentina Street. As confirmed to La Voz from the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES), the two affected had injuries caused by a firearm, although in principle they did not present a serious prognosis.
The injured, a man and a woman, are siblings and responsible for the establishment. She received a shot in the arm and he, who is disabled and in a wheelchair, a shot in the buttock. Both have been transferred by ambulance to the Molina Orosa Hospital.
The National Police was the one who alerted 112, at 12:56 p.m. this Tuesday. After the event, that section of Argentina and Blas Cabrera streets has remained closed to traffic and with a police cordon, although the cordon has been lifted around 2:15 p.m.
Tried to stand up to him
According to relatives of the victims told La Voz, it all started when a man with his face covered entered the jewelry store and pointed a gun at the owner's head. Apparently, he took a crutch and tried to confront the assailant, who ended up shooting him and his sister.
Although they do not rule out that he had an accomplice waiting outside, they affirm that only one person entered the jewelry store. In his escape, he managed to take away a loot of gold, which has not yet been quantified.
From the establishment they point out that they already have a large number of robberies behind them, and two of them with violence. The last most serious occurred in November 2012, when three hooded men entered the establishment with knives and a wrench, intimidating the employees.
On that occasion, they also confronted the attackers, activating the alarm and managing to uncover the face of one of them. That precipitated the escape of the attackers and, in addition, allowed the assailant to be identified later, thanks to the security cameras with which the premises has.
However, this time the event has left worse consequences, with two people injured. Fortunately, none of them were in danger and their prognosis is "less serious".
