Two inmates were injured in a mass brawl that took place this Monday night in the Tahíche prison, according to the Association of Bodies of the Penitentiary Institutions Administration (ACAIP).
The fight broke out at around 7:40 p.m. in module 3 of the prison, during the distribution of dinner. According to ACAIP, two inmates began to argue and fight, and one of them took out a prison “spike”, which caused the fight to spread "to the rest of the inmates who were eating or waiting for dinner at that time."
"There comes a time when such a degree of violence is reached that it is not known where the punches are coming from and the trays were flying," the officials point out. "The situation is not controlled until more service workers in other modules arrive and thanks to their professionalism and diligence only two inmates had to be treated in the center's infirmary for contusions that were not of major severity," ACAIP adds.
Finally, after "the minutes of great anguish experienced", he explains that "three inmates had to be transferred to the isolation department to calm the situation."
