The Court of Violence against Women in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which had assumed the case against the young man accused of causing very serious burns to a minor, decided this afternoon to hand it over to the on-duty court in the city, as it did not see a relationship between the two as proven.
According to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the judge of Violence recognizes that without sufficient evidence that the detainee and the victim had a relationship, her competence is lost and the case corresponds to the judge who was on duty in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this Wednesday, when the events occurred.
When she was found by a police patrol, the minor, a 17-year-old ward who had run away from the home where she lived, pointed to a 20-year-old Moroccan young man who was with her as the person who had set her on fire.
However, due to her serious condition, with 95% of her body burned, she could not provide more details about what happened, nor has her testimony been obtained so far, as she has been transferred in critical condition to the burns unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville.
Sources in the investigation have stated to EFE that the Police plan to hand over the detainee, Abarrafía H., to the court that will ultimately take charge of the proceedings this Friday.
In his statement to the officers, the detainee claimed that what happened was an accident, that the mattress on which they were smoking caught fire.
