The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, reported on Wednesday morning that the Ciudad de Ibiza ship of the Transmediterránea shipping company, which connects Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Cádiz, which usually makes a stopover in Lanzarote, suffered an accident due to the wind.

"A gust of wind has caused the ship to lose control and therefore has rushed towards the dock and the bow. You can easily see the damage it has caused to the ship. Fortunately, it was docking, it was empty, and there has been no personal injury. That has always been good news," Beatriz Calzadas continued in statements to the press.

The accident took place this Wednesday, December 18, in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. According to the Armas Transmediterránea shipping company, the ship "heeled" towards the beach area due to the strong wind. In addition, the shipping company added that "the ship has not had any technical problems that could cause the incident" and that "it is currently analyzing what happened."

In addition, he added that for the moment "measures have been taken urgently to remove the ship from the area with maximum safety, which is already in its usual berth, where the damage assessment is being carried out to proceed with the corresponding repairs".

To conclude, Transmediterránea assures that "there is no risk to the crew, nor is there any risk to the ship or the marine ecosystem."
