On May 6, just a week and a half ago, the Tinajo City Council publicly thanked José Ángel Lemes Clavijo, a resident of the municipality of Tinajo, for the donation of a sculpture that the council placed in the La Santa roundabout as a tribute to all the triathletes of Ironman Lanzarote, a test held this weekend.
On the day of the Ironman celebration, the sculpture has appeared with graffiti in an act of vandalism that the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, describes as “deplorable. It is completely unfortunate that, to make a claim, a donation made by an athlete from Tinajo in tribute to Ironman is being used. I think it's great that whatever is being claimed, but I think there are other ways. Of course, it is not the best way to take away the illusion from the person who donated the sculpture, from the person who did the work and, above all, on such an important day as today has been Ironman day.”
Machín wants to “send encouragement to José Ángel Lemes Clavijo after an incomprehensible act of vandalism and inform him that the sculpture will be cleaned as quickly as possible. At the same time, ask the residents to not hesitate to consult with the Local Police any information they may have regarding this act of vandalism or any other that takes place in the municipality of Tinajo”, concludes the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín.
