The National Police Commissioner of Arrecife, José Luis Gutiérrez, remains in his position after testing positive in a breathalyzer test in the early hours of Saturday, October 11, on the outskirts of the municipality, as La Voz already published. The control took place in the vicinity of the Marina Lanzarote port on the occasion of the celebration of Arrecife en Vivo.

According to the National Police, the Superior Headquarters has notified the central bodies of the General Directorate of the Police to decide on possible disciplinary responsibilities that may have been incurred, regardless of whether other types of measures are ruled out.

During the breathalyzer test, the commissioner identified himself as the head of the Arrecife en Vivo operation, which implies that at that moment he was on duty.

He was traveling in a Mitsubishi vehicle accompanied by two other people who do not belong to the force. In the first breathalyzer test, he showed a rate of 0.59 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, and in the second, he reached 0.62.

After the positive test was confirmed, the official vehicle had to be immobilized as there was no authorized driver or a National Police officer to take charge. Finally, a chief inspector went to the scene and took charge of the car.
