"They went to kill my son." These are the words of Begoña Guadalupe, the mother of one of the young men who was injured in a fight in Arrecife in the early hours of last Saturday, who hopes "they catch" her son's aggressors and "that justice is done," since so far there have been no arrests.

Lucho, as her son is known on the island, had to be transferred to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after the events. In addition to suffering a head trauma, he had "a broken nose" and his jaw was "quite shattered" and he had to undergo "emergency" surgery this Sunday.

This 17-year-old remains hospitalized although "he is gradually improving." However, his mother hopes that his aggressors will not go unpunished. She considers that what happened to her son, who ended up unconscious on the ground after receiving "kicks from all sides," was "an attempted homicide."

The events took place on Avenida de Naos shortly after two in the morning. Agents of the National Police arrived there first and managed to stop a fight, but minutes later they had to return because a brawl was taking place, after which Lucho and another 18-year-old friend of his had to be assisted by SUC paramedics who came to the scene and evacuated to the Molina Orosa Hospital.

As for the other young man, who initially also presented a moderate head trauma according to 112, he is already "at home." "Thank God he is well. His face is a mess but he is well," Begoña pointed out.

No arrests at the moment

According to the minor's mother, the aggressors were "six men in their 30s" who had previously "punched" another of her sons, aged 25. At that time, according to her account, her other son was at home with friends, but after learning what had happened to his brother, he went to the area.

"He asked them why they had hit his brother, but he says they didn't answer him. They didn't say a word to him," his mother pointed out, stating that what they did was start attacking him and other friends. "Other boys were also attacked," she assured, pointing out that in addition to Lucho, her eldest son and the other boy who was transferred to the Hospital, they also attacked three other young men. In fact, she pointed out that "there are already three complaints with the National Police," which has already opened an investigation. However, the police force has confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.

"I can't explain it, really," his mother pointed out, questioning why the aggressors have not yet been arrested. "If they are investigating, where are they? Because they know who they are," she added. And she also assures that the Local Police, who also intervened, "arrested a person and released them" after the fight. In this regard, police sources consulted by La Voz have confirmed that a person was identified by the Local Police after the events, but have reiterated that there have been no arrests yet and that it is being investigated.

In addition to having reported the events to the National Police, Lucho's family states that they plan to report the Local Police. And it is that, his mother affirms that when two of her other children went to help her brother, they were "threatened" by the agents. "They would not let them pass to help their brother and my son was unconscious on the ground," she pointed out. "They even pulled out the baton on my eldest son and my other son, the third, was told that they were going to sanction him because he, feeling helpless, said bad words to them," she related.
