The Civil Guard of Lanzarote arrested a 26-year-old man on August 15 as the perpetrator of a crime of assault on law enforcement agents for hitting several people and assaulting the officers during the San Bartolomé festivities. This was reported by La Voz this Monday.
The man, who has already been sentenced to seven months of fines for the crimes of resistance, two counts of assault, and one for damages for breaking the glass of the Civil Guard barracks in San Bartolomé, is a "professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter," according to a statement from the Benemérita.
The officers of the Benemérita and the Local Police of San Bartolomé, who were patrolling the municipal festivities, were alerted that an individual was hitting a young man.
Upon arriving at the scene, they noticed that the now-convicted man was behaving with "extreme aggression," hitting a local police officer in the face and other citizens who tried to stop the fight.
In addition, the Civil Guard adds that he "maintained an aggressive and defiant attitude" during his arrest and transfer to the Civil Guard barracks in San Bartolomé.
Sentence
After a speedy trial, the man agreed and accepted the sentence for the crimes of resistance, two counts of assault, and one for damages.
In the case of the crime of resistance, he will have to pay a fine of six euros per day for four months; while for each of the two convictions for a minor crime of assault, he will have to face a six-euro fine for 30 days each, and the last one, six euros for 30 days for the crime of damages.
To this must be added the future compensation as a result of the injuries caused and the payment for the damage to the barracks window.
