The Local Police of Arrecife has closed this first week of February with two major deployments of agents from the Citizen Security and Intervention Unit (USCI) in the city's neighborhoods.
The USCI officers of the Local Police have combed different sensitive areas of the capital of Lanzarote to control the sale of drugs, especially in areas of the neighborhoods frequented by the youth population.
The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, and direct head of the Local Police, has ordered the agents of the corps to reinforce the police presence in the sensitive areas of Arrecife, and increase surveillance to prevent the sale of drugs among the youth population.
The USCI has carried out during this week, on Tuesday and Friday in the afternoon and evening, two major deployments in the neighborhoods of Arrecife, to combat traffickers and people who may induce young people to consume narcotics.
These preventive controls aim to increase security and surveillance in these areas, already known by police investigations.
Since last year, the Arrecife Local Police Corps has been equipped with camouflaged cars, which allow for important police control and surveillance work. In addition, they also have plainclothes officers.
Yonathan de León has announced that during this 2025, surveillance will continue to be reinforced in these sensitive areas of Arrecife, both with camouflaged cars and with preventive deployments of the USCI. The goal is to achieve safer and drug-free environments for youth, and increase security in the capital of Lanzarote.
