“In the same day, we have had to lament two new tragedies on our coasts of Lanzarote, and the least important thing is the name of the beach or the dock or the island of entry of these boats loaded with men, women and children with illusions, what cries out to heaven is that the Canary Islands continue to experience so closely this humanitarian drama that claims lives”, lamented Oswaldo Betancort before the accidental arrival of the last migrants from the African continent. “What is truly painful is that the Emergency personnel and even our neighbors have to go to save lives at sea at the risk of losing their own, while those who have to take action do not put aside the garbage politics to defend a fragile territory like ours and avoid the deaths of so many victims”, added Betancort with indignation.

The mayor of Teguise, and also regional parliamentary deputy for Lanzarote, has decreed this Wednesday that the flags of the City Council fly at half-staff in mourning for these new victims of a migratory phenomenon “that Madrid neither cares about, because distance is oblivion, and while this happens in the Canary Islands, they will have fewer problems in their southern or peninsular Mediterranean borders”, denounced Betancort, who on several occasions so far this year has questioned through the control body to the Government of the Canary Islands and in representation of the nationalist group “the deficient functioning of the External Surveillance System, as well as the precariousness in infrastructure and human resources to be able to develop an effective role in border control”.

“It is truly unacceptable the image that Spain is giving in the face of migratory pressure and its harmful effects against the territory, in this case, of such fragility as our islands, in addition to attacking the human life of so many deceived people, who get on a small boat to look for what we all want: a better life”.
