The forest fire in La Palma has forced the evacuation of more than 4,000 people, while an improvement in the containment of the fire perimeter, which is still not controlled, means that the affected hectares are 4,765.
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, explained that despite the "voracity" of the fire in the first hours, its perimeter has been contained, although "it is still out of control."
He pointed out that resistance has been encountered from the population during the evacuations, and he has asked them to heed the security forces and bodies who want to ensure their safety.
Before nightfall, the first seaplane that arrived from Malaga was able to act on the fire, and during the night the second one will arrive, which will be able to start operating first thing in the morning.
During the day, 400 ground personnel and 13 aerial resources worked to extinguish the fire, and they will also be the ones to act tomorrow.
Clavijo highlighted that the drop in temperature, the increase in humidity and the fact that the wind is not blowing as strongly as expected are positive factors in the fire extinguishing efforts, in which 100 ground personnel are expected to participate tonight.
In addition to the population center of Tijarafe, the fire extinguishing work management has ordered the evacuation of the municipality of Puntagorda, with a population of 2,293 inhabitants.
