This Monday, Portuguese men-of-war (Physalia Physalis) have been located in a beach in Puerto del Carmen. Specifically, it was in Playa Grande where the flag was raised due to the presence of these false jellyfish, also known as Portuguese frigate, to warn bathers, as reported by the Security and Emergency Consortium.

As reported by the emergency teams, these are Portuguese men-of-war, which have a similarity to jellyfish but are not really jellyfish. Thus, few and small ones have been sighted. These beings are shaped like a balloon and can measure up to 30 centimeters in diameter, so the part that is most similar to a balloon is used to move with the sea. In addition, they have a characteristic blue or violet color.

It is not the first sighting that has occurred in Lanzarote this year. In January, there were already several alerts for jellyfish on the island's beaches. On January 25, jellyfish were located on La Garita beach (Haría), right on the sand and next to the shore.
