The person arrested after running a traffic checkpoint and running over a civil guard in Playa Blanca has been released provisionally, pending a report from the forensic doctor regarding the injuries suffered by the agent, which will determine the crime to be charged, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.

The events took place at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, when agents from the Rapid Intervention Group and the Yaiza Main Post were carrying out a preventive control in a shopping center in the tourist town, which the driver ran over, hitting one of the agents and also hitting other vehicles that were parked.

The perpetrator, a 49-year-old man with no police record, was immediately arrested by the Civil Guard on charges of attacking an agent of authority and against road safety. The driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which tested positive in an amount greater than 0.60 milligrams per liter of exhaled air. For his part, the agent who was run over suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

After his arrest, the driver was brought before the Investigating Court number 3 of Arrecife, whose judge ordered his provisional release as the case is in preliminary proceedings pending the report of the forensic doctor.
