THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL CONDUCT A GROUND SEARCH ON THE WEST COAST

The Consortium will search "until the end of the week" for the young man who fell into the sea in La Santa

This Tuesday there will be a ground search on the west coast of the island. The search by sea concludes this Monday, but the Consortium will request that the GEAS divers carry out another dive "when the sea is calm"...

This Monday has been the last day that all resources were activated to search for the young man who fell into the sea last Friday on the coast of La Santa, whose body has not yet appeared. The manager of the Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, has explained that, among the next steps in the search, which "will continue until the end of this week", the firefighters will carry out "a ground search" on the west coast of the island this Tuesday.

To comb that area to try to find the body, the Consortium will have at least a couple of firefighters and two other emergency agents. "We still don't know how many civil protection and Red Cross volunteers we will have," Espinosa explained.

Regarding the search at sea, the GES helicopter, the Maritime Rescue boat, the Civil Guard Patrol boat, local police and members of civil protection from Tinajo, Yaiza and La Oliva (Fuerteventura) have searched the waters for the last time this Monday. The boats and the helicopter have carried out the search within a radius of 10 nautical miles, reaching just a few meters from the beaches of Fuerteventura, until late in the afternoon. The divers of the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, for their part, have not been able to dive due to the poor sea conditions.

After this last search, Espinosa explained that the protocol is to "notify boats, sailors and fishermen so that if they see something they notify it", since the troops will not continue searching out to sea.

In any case, the manager has explained that the Consortium will continue with the search "until the end of the week". Espinosa believes that the body "should float", but, given that the divers have not been able to dive, he points out that they do not know "if it is hooked or even in some cave". For this reason, he has advanced that "if it does not float" they will ask the GEAS to carry out "a new dive when the sea is calm".
