In Puerto del Carmen, the Civil Guard began investigating three people since the beginning of June as alleged perpetrators of a crime against industrial property. In their investigation, the State security force discovered more than 4,400 counterfeit product items.

The Civil Guard began the investigation after receiving up to six complaints in May from the lawyers representing several commercial brands, who reported the sale of counterfeit products that caused economic damage to their clients.

In the course of the investigation, the Civil Guard carried out the pertinent inquiries and procedures to clarify the criminal acts. The agents inspected the reported businesses and discovered that in three clothing and accessories bazaars the owners made a large number of sales of counterfeit products under high-value commercial brands.

They carried out three simultaneous inspections in the related establishments, with the collaboration of a judicial expert in patents and trademarks, who verified the quality and degree of falsification of the seized objects.

Merchandise valued at almost half a million euros

With this action, the Civil Guard seized more than 4,400 counterfeit products, including luxury brand bags, shirts and pants from soccer teams, in which a detailed list was made by type of product, brand and model.

In addition, 85 metal plates with the logo of luxury commercial brands were seized, which were hidden in the payment counter area to be attached to bags and small leather goods items just at the time of purchase, thus being able to evade quality controls in case of inspections by the competent authorities.

Likewise, the withdrawn merchandise amounts to more than 466,000 euros, an amount claimed by the brands affected by the damages caused and the profits not obtained, with the proceedings and seized objects remaining at the disposal of the court in Arrecife.
