The Civil Guard identifies two young people for an illegal race in Mala and broadcasting it on social media

The agents have initiated the corresponding proceedings, which have been submitted to Investigating Court number 3 of Arrecife

On October 20, agents from the Civil Guard's Accident Investigation Teams (EIS) in Arrecife became aware, following information published by La Voz, of the social media posting of a video showing an illegal race between two vehicles in the town of Mala.

The armed institute also pointed out that the vehicles performed **a dangerous overtaking maneuver**, endangering other users and affecting road safety. The images were recorded by friends and acquaintances and later disseminated on social media.

Following the analysis of the disseminated images, the agents proceeded to carry out the necessary investigations to identify the drivers of the vehicles, as well as to locate the place and date of the commission of the acts.

 

An illegal race on a 50-kilometer-per-hour road 

From the results of these, it has been possible to determine that the events occurred on October 19th at kilometer five of the LZ-42 road, in the municipality of Haría.

The two vehicles were positioned parallel to each other, occupying both lanes of traffic on the road connecting the towns of Guatiza and Mala, which has a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour. At that point, they engaged in an illegal race, and both vehicles made a sudden maneuver, invading and using the lane reserved for oncoming traffic, to avoid colliding with another vehicle traveling in the same direction as the race and ahead of it, putting its driver at serious risk.

As a result of the investigations, on October 25th of this year, **two male drivers, aged 26 and 30** respectively, were identified. They were informed that they would be investigated as alleged perpetrators of a reckless driving offense.Of the facts investigated, the corresponding proceedings have been initiated and have been handed over to the Court of Instruction number 3 of Arrecife

 

Applicable Regulations

In accordance with the provisions of the current Penal Code, and specifically in its Article 380, it is established that, "whoever drives a motor vehicle or moped with manifest recklessness and puts the life or integrity of persons in concrete danger shall be punished with prison sentences of six months to two years and the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one and up to six years," establishing aggravated types for those behaviors that take place with manifest disregard for the lives of others, or if the life or integrity of persons has been put in concrete danger.
