Fifteen seconds. That is how long the chilling video lasts for which two people have been convicted after suffocating a dog to death in Teguise. Some very harsh images that may offend sensibilities and that the authors themselves sent to the City Council, as a complaint because the animal was loose and had entered their property. After receiving these images, the City Council reported the events to the Court.
The recording shows the dog agonizing while tied by a rope around its neck and in turn to the front and rear extremities and with its snout closed with electrical tape and secured with a flange. It was the Animal Welfare area of Teguise that provided the video to the Local Police, who opened an investigation that allowed them to locate and identify the perpetrators, who faced a quick trial in which they acknowledged the facts and reached an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office.
As La Voz has already reported, the defendants were sentenced to a penalty of four months in prison by the Investigating Court number 1 of Arrecife, although it agreed to suspend the prison sentence for two years, provided they do not commit another crime and undergo rehabilitation treatment during that time. Likewise, they were imposed a special disqualification for 16 months to exercise a profession, trade or business that is related to animals and for the possession thereof.
