Storm Claudia continues to leave its mark on Lanzarote with strong gusts of wind causing numerous incidents in various parts of the island. Since the early hours of the morning, emergency services have received multiple calls for fallen electrical cables, poles, and other urban furniture.

The most affected areas are in Arrecife, Tinajo, Tiagua, and Arrieta, where the wind has exceeded 80 kilometers per hour at times. The most significant incident was recorded in Tiagua: a high-voltage cable fell onto the main road, forcing traffic to be cut off and rerouted to alternative routes while Endesa technicians worked to restore safety. In Arrecife, there have been reports of falling branches and minor damage to parked vehicles, while in Tinajo and Arrieta several telephone and electricity poles have been affected, causing small supply cuts and communication problems

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has asked citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in rural areas and on secondary roads. Emergency services remain on alert due to the possibility of wind gusts continuing in the coming hours.

Órzola Port on minimum services

The rough seas have meant that the port of Órzola is only operating with minimal services, with three departures throughout the day: one in the morning, one at midday, and one in the afternoon, according to the manager of the Emergency Consortium.

In addition, the port of Arrecife remains closed this Thursday until 2:00 PM.
