The magistrate of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Arrecife has initiated the procedure to bring the death of the young Romina Celeste before the Jury Court, for which her husband was sent to provisional prison. In addition, the Prosecutor's Office has already specified its accusation against Raúl Díaz, whom it accuses of up to six crimes: homicide, habitual abuse, desecration of a corpse, two crimes of injury and one of simulation of crime.

The Public Prosecutor considers that Raúl Díaz "voluntarily killed his wife" between December 31, 2018 and January 1, 2019 and that he "burned and dismembered the victim's body," throwing the remains into the sea, of which he recalls that only a lung appeared in Costa Teguise.

Regarding the crimes of habitual abuse and injury, the Prosecutor's Office maintains that during the time that their relationship lasted, which is estimated to have begun "at the end of 2017", Raúl Díaz "assaulted" Romina "on different occasions".

In this regard, the Public Prosecutor specifies two episodes, one of them in August 2018 "when both were staying at the Gran Hotel Arrecife" and another just days before the young woman's death, between December 27 and 29, when she went "to the emergency service" of the Molina Orosa Hospital with "significant injuries" although "she was not seen by the doctor when the accused went to look for her."

Regarding the simulation of crime, the Prosecutor's Office recalls that Romina's husband reported the young woman's disappearance to the Civil Guard, although he did not do so until January 8, "despite knowing perfectly well that such a disappearance had not occurred, but that he had previously killed his sentimental partner."

Statements from witnesses and pending tests

In addition to initiating the procedure for the case to be judged by a popular jury, the magistrate of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Arrecife also agreed, in orders of November 18 and 27, that a series of procedures be carried out at the request of the Prosecutor's Office before the investigation is closed.

Specifically, the taking of statements has been requested from two agents of the National Police, an employee of the Arrecife Gran Hotel for the "violent episode" recorded in these facilities, and two doctors from the Canary Health Service who attended to Romina on August 8 and October 21, 2018. These statements have already been scheduled for February 11.

Likewise, it has been requested that an expert report be prepared in order to determine if a pair of scissors that Romina's husband bought on January 3, 2019 "is an instrument suitable for dismembering a body", as well as other expert reports to analyze messages and calls from different telephones, some from Romina's relatives
