A Jet2 plane that took off this Monday morning from Lanzarote-César Manrique Airport bound for Nottingham had to turn around shortly after takeoff after detecting the smell of smoke in the cabin.

As confirmed by the Emergency Consortium to La Voz, the pilots decided to return to Lanzarote "for safety" after detecting the smell of smoke. After landing on the island, firefighters are currently inspecting the plane to find the source of the smoke.

In addition, the passengers remain inside the plane until they know if it is in optimal condition to fly or, instead, they will fly to their destination on another aircraft.
