Attendees at a party in Fuerteventura attack the Civil Guard with stones while shouting "shitty pandemic"

The Civil Guard has proceeded to arrest five people as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of resistance and disobedience to an agent of authority and to report another eight for non-compliance with covid-19 regulations for celebrating a private party in a house located in El Cotillo, in the municipality of La Oliva (Fuerteventura), with a capacity of more than twenty people.

The action took place after receiving a notice from a private individual who warned of the celebration of a party with a significant number of attendees in a villa located in the town of El Cotillo, so a patrol of the Civil Guard of Corralejo moved to the place and observed colored lights and music coming from a house.

When the agents tried to inform those present - adults in the company of their minor children - that the concentration should be dissolved, in accordance with the covid-19 containment measures, they received threats and verbal attacks to leave the place claiming that all the land was private, in addition to throwing stones that hit the police vehicle.

Likewise, they piled up a table and chairs as a barricade on the access road to prevent the entry of the civil guards. The concentrated people shouted slogans such as "where is freedom", "what pandemic do they defend, they are slaves of a government, shitty pandemic..."

Given the hostility of these people, several Civil Guard patrols moved to the place and were able to control the public disorder situation generated, proceeding to the arrest of five people, four men and one woman, as alleged perpetrators of crimes of resistance and disobedience to an agent of authority, with the result of two of the civil guards who intervened with minor injuries, in addition to various damages to one of the official vehicles and police equipment. In addition, eight of the attendees were reported for non-compliance with covid-19 measures.

On the other hand, a part of those present, upon the arrival of the reinforcements requested by the first acting patrol, fled the place, although the number of license plates of the vehicles parked in the vicinity of the house is available at first, so new complaints are not ruled out.

The detainees will be brought to the disposal of the Investigating Court on duty in Puerto del Rosario.
