A hiker had to be rescued this Wednesday after suffering a fall while walking through the Las Grietas area, in the municipality of Tías, a place that once again registers an accident related to hiking.
According to the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Security and Emergencies Consortium, the alert was received at 12:45 PM through the CECOES, which reported that a woman had fallen in the vicinity of the LZ-35, breaking her right ankle.
Consortium personnel were dispatched to the scene, acting in coordination with the Local Police of Tías and health services. After an initial assessment, the responders immobilized the injured limb with a semi-rigid splint to facilitate its evacuation.
Subsequently, the hiker was transferred on a stretcher to the point where the ambulance was waiting, which was responsible for her assistance and subsequent transfer to receive medical attention.
The incident once again highlights the need to exercise extreme caution when traversing Las Grietas, one of Lanzarote's most visited natural spaces, where various rescues of hikers and visitors have occurred in recent years.
