The Civil Guard of Vecindario, through the Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF), has carried out several actions against the sale of counterfeit products that have allowed the seizure of a total of 1,269 sports garments related to national teams participating in the 2026 Football World Cup.
The seizures took place in the municipalities of Ingenio and Telde, where the marketing of kits that illicitly reproduced protected brands and distinctive signs was detected.
The operation began after a complaint filed by an authorized representative of a sports entity, who reported the possible sale of counterfeit kits. Based on this information, agents began a series of checks to locate the points of sale and verify the authenticity of the products.
As a result of these actions, on June 18, an inspection was carried out in a commercial establishment in Carrizal, in the municipality of Ingenio. During the operation, agents located and seized 529 sports garments, including shirts and shorts, mainly related to different national teams that will participate in the 2026 Football World Cup.
The estimated value of the seized merchandise amounts to 36,500 euros. The investigations also led to the identification of the person responsible for the establishment, who is being investigated for an alleged crime against industrial property. Likewise, all the merchandise was withdrawn from sale and made available to the judicial authority.
The investigations continued in the following days and led the agents to a second point of sale, located in a street vending area in the municipality of Telde. There, on June 21, a new seizure was carried out in which 740 counterfeit sports garments were located, also linked to national teams participating in the 2026 Football World Cup, with an estimated value of 61,375 euros.
Among the items seized in both operations were complete kits from national teams such as Spain, Germany, Argentina, England, and Portugal, among others. The wide variety of products found reflects the interest generated by major sporting events and how, on occasion, that demand is exploited to introduce counterfeit goods into the market. In total, the two operations have made it possible to remove 1,269 counterfeit sports garments from sale, with an estimated value exceeding 97,000 euros.
These interventions are part of the work carried out by the Guardia Civil to prevent and prosecute crimes against industrial property, contributing to the protection of both consumers and the affected brands and entities.
The proceedings initiated have been sent to the duty Court of Instruction in Telde, where actions aimed at fully clarifying the facts and determining possible responsibilities arising from them will continue.
