The crew of a fishing boat that was left adrift more than 100 kilometers from Arrecife de Lanzarote in the early hours of the morning after suffering a breakdown of its machinery with 11 people on board has been rescued on Sunday morning by Maritime Rescue personnel, who are currently taking them to the island by towing the boat.

The fishing boat's crew themselves made their situation known by making a distress call after two in the morning to the Las Palmas Coordination Center of Maritime Rescue, which, as sources from the state company have informed EFE, activated the rescue vessel Salvamar Al Nair to go in search of them.

At the same time, it notified other vessels transiting the area, requesting their cooperation to establish the exact location of the distressed vessel and gather more data on its condition, receiving a response from the vessel Ciudad de Valencia, which ended up locating it and then waited in the vicinity, monitoring for its safety while awaiting the Salvamar.

The vessel, given the distance of the location, 70 miles from Arrecife, did not manage to reach it and make a firm tow to begin the operation of taking it to port until nine in the morning.

At which time it began its return journey to Lanzarote, where it is estimated it will not dock, in any case, until around eight in the evening, due to the long journey to complete, Maritime Rescue has confirmed.

Its sources have not been able to provide details at the moment about the name of the rescued fishing boat or its home port, although they have confirmed the good condition of its crew, eleven in total, they have detailed.
