National Police agents have arrested a 47-year-old man, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of attempted homicide and assault on an authority agent after, allegedly, setting fire to the tent where the victim was located.
The events occurred on the morning of May 16 in the capital of Gran Canaria, after several police units were dispatched by the CIMACC 091 Room following a report of a brawl between two people who resided in tents set up on public roads.
Upon arrival, the agents located firefighters intervening at the scene while intense smoke enveloped the area as a result of a tent fire.
According to the information gathered, the victim and the aggressor knew each other previously and the origin of the events was a dispute between them the previous night.
The victim told the agents that the now-detained man had threatened to set fire to his tent, and that moments later, he carried out his threat after going to the location carrying a lighter and setting fire to his tent while he was inside.
When she tried to escape the flames, she was allegedly kicked, falling back inside the burning structure before the aggressor left the scene.
The victim managed to get out with the help of a witness, suffering second-degree burns on various parts of her body, for which she was assisted by health personnel and transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.
After obtaining a physical description of the alleged perpetrator, the agents initiated a search operation, managing to locate and intercept him shortly after in the vicinity of his home.
The detainee, upon realizing the police presence, tried to flee and reacted violently and aggressively towards the agents, with one of them being injured during the intervention.
Finally, the suspect was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of attempted homicide and assault on an authority agent. Once the police proceedings were completed, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who ordered his imprisonment.
