The National Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in Arrecife as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of damage by fire and theft. The man was being investigated for setting fire to a van and stealing a bag in the capital of Lanzarote.
The fire took place in the early hours of last June 27 in the Peñas del Chache neighborhood, in which a vehicle caught fire and the facade of a building and the top of a tree that also caught fire were also affected, police sources report.
To commit the fire, the man stole a screen from a parking security booth and then used it to break the window of said van.
In addition to the crime of damage by fire, the arrested man was identified in police stations as the alleged perpetrator of a theft crime, committed on May 28 where he stole a bag in a restaurant.
After the completion of the appropriate police proceedings, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
