The swift action of an Arrecife Local Police officer, with the support of Civil Protection, made it possible to save the life of a city resident, who lives in the La Destila neighborhood, and who nearly perished in a fire inside his home.

On November 14, the Arrecife Local Police Station received a call reporting a fire in a dwelling, with a person inside asking for help. Local Police officers were dispatched to the address indicated for a fire in the dwelling located on the third floor, where a person inside was asking for help.

An officer identified the dwelling, from which smoke was emanating from under the door, finding the stairwell also filled with smoke. This officer knocked on the door and no one answered, and after several attempts managed to break down the door.

With no visibility inside due to very dense smoke, a new reinforcement agent who also arrived at the property entered. Both, using their equipment, located an adult male without a shirt on the living room floor, **in a semi-conscious state with severe respiratory distress**.They observed a person of high body weight and managed to drag them by the arms to the outside of the dwelling where, with the help of four other local officers, they managed to get this resident down to a smoke-free lower floor. After this, they took the person's vital signs and communicated again with the 112 emergency room, where firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium later arrived, who proceeded to extinguish the fire and ventilate the propertySubsequently, as detailed in the Local Police report, a basic SUC ambulance with the call sign 13.11 also attended, followed by a medicalized ambulance with the call sign 13.90, who stabilized the affected resident, who also showed high signs of intoxication

Reinforcements from the Arrecife Civil Protection Unit arrived at the scene and collaborated with the emergency. Two officers from the Arrecife Local Police escorted the ambulance to the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, in Arrecife, where the resident was admitted in serious condition.

The Local Police officers, once the fire in the building was extinguished, carried out a visual inspection and were able to confirm that the fire originated in the kitchen. Subsequently, a person who identified themselves as a relative of the rescued individual arrived at the scene, stating they lived with the victim and taking charge of the residence.
