Lanzarote registered 985 work accidents during the first ten months of 2020, which, however, represents a decrease of 43.9% compared to 2019, according to figures from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs collected by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics and published by the Cabildo Data Center.
The first quarter of the year was the one with the most work accidents on the island with a total of 442, while in the second quarter, which was marked by the state of alarm and the paralysis of many businesses, there were 169 work incidents registered in Lanzarote. Finally, in the third quarter a total of 289 work accidents were recorded and in October a total of 85.
As La Voz already reported, in March there was a fatal work accident on the island without any more deaths having to be mourned in the following months. This figure remains the same as in 2019 since, at that time, there was also one fatal victim due to a work accident in Lanzarote.
Regarding "very serious" work accidents, there were two registered in 2020, one of them in January and another last October, while none were registered last year. In addition, until October of this year, there were six serious work accidents, two less than in 2019.
With respect to minor work accidents, these have decreased compared to last year, specifically by 44.2%. And, from January to October 2020, there were 976 minor work incidents registered on the island, while in the same period last year there were 1,748.
