The Civil Guard of the Las Palmas Command has arrested a woman as the presumed perpetrator of a crime of theft with force using a false key committed in a well-known tourist area of the municipality of Mogán.
The investigation began after a complaint filed by a tourist who was enjoying his vacation on the island. The victim reported the theft of various pieces of gold jewelry from his room, including rings and pendants, whose total replacement value amounts to approximately 15,000 euros.
Upon learning of the events, the Civil Guard's Investigation Area immediately initiated the corresponding inquiries for its clarification. During an initial visual inspection, the
officers verified that there were no signs of forced entry on either the access door or the room's safe, which was found open. This circumstance allowed the investigation to focus on the possible use of an authorized electronic key to access the premises.
From that moment on, the main line of investigation focused on the exhaustive analysis of the electronic records of the establishment's locks. Thanks to the specialization of the officers and the study of the information obtained, it was detected that during the period in which the theft occurred, an employee card belonging to a former worker of the complex had been used, whose electronic key had been reported missing months prior.
The progress of the investigations allowed this information to be cross-referenced with the movements registered by active personnel, detecting a particularly relevant coincidence. Investigators verified that the now-detained woman had accessed a room adjacent to the victim's room just one minute after the so-called "ghost key" was used to open the door of the room where the theft occurred. This technical data proved decisive in placing the suspect at the exact place and time of the events.
Given the evidence obtained, the agents proceeded to identify the suspect and search her belongings while she was working in a common area of the tourist complex. During the operation, the woman displayed a visibly nervous attitude and attempted to hide her personal purse among her work clothes. Inside it, investigators located the electronic key used to access the victim's room, hidden alongside her personal documents and outside of the designated areas for carrying work tools.
Likewise, the investigations carried out allowed the detainee to be linked to three other incidents of a similar nature that had recently occurred in the same establishment, in which thefts of cash and jewelry had been reported. The rapid police action prevented the card used from being destroyed or transferred to third parties, thus ensuring the acquisition of fundamental evidence for the investigation.
The detainee, who has numerous prior police records for property crimes, including burglary and theft, was placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court of First Instance on Duty in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, along with the proceedings initiated.
