The Civil Guard of Las Palmas has executed by judicial order several entries and searches in homes in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, as La Voz advanced, within the framework of an operation that studies crimes related to public corruption and urban planning. These records were made within the framework of Operation Valka.
Among them, the Benemérita registered the headquarters of the Municipal Urban Management Company of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (GEURSA) and the Department of Parks and Gardens of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In addition, a house in Arrieta.
For the moment, there are five investigated who are accused, among others, of several crimes of administrative prevarication, urban planning prevarication, influence peddling, negotiations and activities prohibited to public officials, embezzlement of public funds, forgery of public documents and disclosure of privileged information.
The judicial investigation focuses on the possible existence of an organized plot dedicated to illicitly favoring, with urban and administrative decisions contrary to the general interest, certain businessmen whose economic interests depend, to a large extent, on administrative decisions that are in the hands or under the sphere of influence of public officials and former officials belonging to GEURSA S.A, as well as the fraudulent awarding of work assignments, awarding of contracts, and projects for the implementation of large works, such as the metroguagua, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The records are being executed simultaneously by a joint operation of the Civil Guard, made up of members of Seprona, Ucoma, the Technological Crimes Group and Edite of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police Command of Las Palmas, under the direction of the
Investigating Magistrate of the Court of Instruction number 2 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Delegate Prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office for the Environment and Urban Planning and the Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime of Las Palmas.
The investigation, which is under summary secrecy and remains open, so future arrests and/or charges are not ruled out.
