National Police agents have arrested in Lanzarote three men aged 44, 47 and 49, all of them with police records, as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking crime and membership of a criminal organization.

The operation has seized 55 kilograms of cocaine whose value in the illicit market exceeds 1.6 million euros.

The arrests took place on May 8, when agents from the Narcotics Group of the Arrecife Local Police Station detected the frequent movements of the suspects from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, where they remained for short periods of time in order to distribute narcotic substances.

After their arrival on the island, the police established a surveillance and monitoring device, verifying that the three investigated adopted numerous counter-surveillance measures to try to detect the police presence.

A day later, the investigators observed the detainees entering a vacation home in Playa Honda carrying heavy travel bags.

At that moment, the agents intercepted one of the cars, locating inside two backpacks 18 packages of cocaine with an approximate weight of 20 kilograms. The subsequent search of the house allowed the intervention of another 32 packages with a weight close to 35 kilograms.

The third member was arrested at the Lanzarote airport when he was trying to leave the island.

The detainees were brought to judicial disposition, decreeing the immediate imprisonment of the three detainees.
