The Civil Guard of Lanzarote arrested last Thursday, May 4, a 49-year-old man, driver of a van, accused of being the author of a crime of drug trafficking. The events occurred in the port of Playa Blanca, and according to the statement issued by the Benemérita, he would have been caught transporting 62.2 kilograms of hashish inside his vehicle.
The events occurred while the Fiscal and Border Patrol was carrying out a verification point for passengers, luggage and means of transport, at the exit of the ships that depart from the commercial dock of Playa Blanca in the municipality of Yaiza to the town of Corralejo in Fuerteventura.
As a result of police actions and the risk analysis that the Civil Guard carries out in the pursuit of criminal offenses of drug trafficking and smuggling, the agents of the Armed Institute identified the driver of a van, who allegedly "showed signs of nervousness" in the presence of the police.
For this reason, they inspected the documentation and the interior of the vehicle, according to the Civil Guard, "locating in its cargo area several reusable boxes sealed with flanges of which the driver could not specify the content, which is why the boxes were opened, locating inside 64 wrapped packages containing the drug".
Immediately, the Civil Guard proceeded to arrest the driver and to seize the hashish, which after carrying out the corresponding weighing, showed a weight of 65.2 kilograms. The detainee, together with the proceedings, were placed at the disposal of the Arrecife Duty Court, which ordered his immediate imprisonment.
