A petition to demand that the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, in Lanzarote, be prepared "for any situation" after the death of a 24-year-old has achieved an avalanche of support signatures. At 12:30 p.m. this Tuesday, it had already obtained more than 2,000 signatures on the Change.org platform, where it is requested that the island have a "decent" hospital center.
The petition, created by Abidán Placeres, explains that his friend Joaquín Hernández, only 24 years old, had an accident and was transferred to this hospital, the only public one on the island. "Joaquín had an internal hemorrhage in his liver and all they could do was plug it with gauze and give him blood, because there was no liver machine, nor a specialized surgeon," he says, just as the deceased's sister, Sandra Pina, explained to La Voz this Monday.
Joaquín Hernández had to be transferred to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to be able to operate on him, but the hemorrhage did not stop, nor did it stabilize and they could not carry out this evacuation. On Sunday morning, "after much suffering", Joaquín passed away.
"He could have been saved"
"It is very sad that because of this Government we do not have a decent hospital in which this boy could have been saved. We do not want them to let even one more person die. This is not a complaint to the hospital, because they did what could be done there and they treated us very well, but we want our hospital to be prepared for anything and not always have to transfer patients to another island", it is demanded in this petition, which recalls that when a person cannot be evacuated "for any reason", this, the one of the death, is the "horrible end that awaits us".
Therefore, with this petition they ask the citizens of the island to sign on this platform. "We deserve that our friends, family or ourselves can live with the peace of mind that the hospital is prepared for everything. Let the Government stop so much cutbacks and invest in Health. Let's fight so that it is not repeated even once more. Help us with your signature since our friend Joaquín could have also been a friend of yours", they insist from this signature collection campaign.
