The National Police has arrested a man in Arrecife, as the alleged perpetrator of several arson fires registered in different parts of the capital of Lanzarote during the early mornings of June 2, 3, and 4.

The investigation, carried out by agents of the Local Brigade of Judicial Police of Arrecife, made it possible to clarify a total of three different incidents, in which up to six highly virulent fire outbreaks were originated.

As a consequence of these events, a total of 14 vehicles and 13 waste containers were affected, some of which were completely incinerated.

The fires generated notable alarm among residents and had a wide impact in the local media.

The police investigation made it possible to identify and locate the alleged perpetrator, a man with numerous police records, who is linked to the different episodes investigated.

During the investigation, citizen collaboration was especially relevant, providing information of interest for the clarification of the facts.

Once the police proceedings were completed, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who ordered his admission to a psychiatric hospital unit.

The investigation has thus clarified several fires that caused significant material damage to vehicles and urban furniture in the city of Arrecife.
