The Civil Guard of Gran Canaria, through the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), has arrested a 49-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of domestic animals and another of threats, following an investigation carried out in the municipality of Valsequillo de Gran Canaria.
The investigation began when a citizen went to the Main Post of San Mateo to report the discovery of a cardboard box in front of his home. Inside were the lifeless bodies of two dogs belonging to him, both small in size.
According to the investigations carried out, the events were related to previous family disagreements between the parties involved. After abandoning the box with the animals in front of the complainant's home, the alleged perpetrator allegedly sent various threatening messages through social networks, a circumstance that led to the filing of the complaint.
Once SEPRONA took over the investigation, the agents proceeded to collect the bodies and carry out the initial proceedings. The animals were transferred to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the necropsy determined that both had died as a result of several projectile impacts to the head.
In parallel, investigators carried out various checks and inspections that allowed them to gather evidence related to the reported events. The analysis of the place where the animals were found and the elements found during the investigation allowed the inquiries to be directed towards a specific suspect.
The actions carried out made it possible to determine that the events would have occurred on a family farm shared by the parties involved, where the now arrested person allegedly ended the lives of the animals before transporting their bodies to the victim's home.
As a result of the investigation, the judicial authority authorized the entry and search of the suspect's farm. The operation had the collaboration of the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of Las Palmas, locating various elements of interest for the clarification of the facts and confirming that the investigated person possessed firearms.
Finally, the Civil Guard proceeded to the arrest of the man as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of domestic animals and another of threats. The proceedings have been made available to the competent judicial authority.
