The Local Police of Tías arrested a man of Portuguese origin last January 2nd after seriously assaulting a British tourist on Avenida de las Playas.
According to police sources, the incident originated when the detainee, who was riding a scooter on the bike path, had a verbal confrontation with two British citizens who were walking on the same path, violating the rules of use of the space.
Eyewitnesses report that, after the discussion, the aggressor punched one of the tourists hard, causing him to fall violently to the ground. As a result, the victim suffered serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury with a critical prognosis, fractures of the orbital and maxillary bone, as well as cuts to the back of the head that required stitches.
The tourist remains hospitalized in serious condition at the Doctor José Molina Orosa hospital, while the possibility of transferring him to Gran Canaria for specialized treatment is being evaluated due to the severity of his injuries.
