Agents of the National Police have arrested a man in Maspalomas as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against freedom of conscience, religious feelings, and freedom of worship, following an investigation that established his alleged participation in various incidents that occurred in a parish in the town.
The agents became aware of the events as a result of several complaints and grievances filed by members of the religious community and temple officials, who reported the repeated presence of a person who attended liturgical celebrations with the aim of disrupting their normal proceedings.
According to the investigations carried out, the events had been occurring continuously since September 2025. The detainee's modus operandi consisted of frequently entering the temple during mass celebrations and engaging in conduct incompatible with the normal development of religious acts, uttering shouts and threatening expressions directed at both attendees and parish officials.
Furthermore, when asked to leave the premises to allow the ceremonies to continue, the investigated individual reacted hostilely, confronting those present and uttering direct insults and threats.
These actions, which continued for approximately nine months, generated a situation of fear and unease among the parishioners, affecting the exercise of their fundamental right to religious freedom and the free development of acts of worship.
The agents, after gathering the necessary evidence and identifying the alleged perpetrator, established a police operation that culminated in the location and arrest of the investigated individual as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against freedom of conscience, religious feelings, and freedom of worship.
Once the police proceedings were completed, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, who decreed various precautionary measures, including a restraining order with respect to the affected temple.
