The Civil Guard of Lanzarote arrested a person on November 28 for fishing and dismembering an angel shark for consumption on the island of Lanzarote, following the publication of the videos on a social network.
The SEPRONA Detachment of Timanfaya in Lanzarote learned through the publication on social networks about the fishing of an angel shark (Squatina squatina), which is classified as a critically endangered species by the IUCN and in danger of extinction in the Spanish Catalog of Threatened Species. In addition, two complaints were received for the same events arising from two associations that had previously also reported another case of shark fishing.

The publication was made on a well-known social network in December 2020 and showed several videos in which the animal had been transferred to a building still alive and flapping on the ground. Another video showed several people tearing apart this protected species for consumption. Therefore, an investigation was initiated that allowed the identification of one of the perpetrators who was located by the Fiscal and Border Patrol (PAFIF) on the coast of Lanzarote, specifically he was fishing in the area of the Castle of San José, reporting the fact to the DEPRONA that made the arrest for a crime against wildlife, transferring all police actions to the Arrecife duty court.
