Arrested after shooting a hunter's dog with an air rifle in Teseguite

The animal had to be operated on urgently to remove the projectile, which perforated both lungs

The Civil Guard has arrested a 36-year-old Dutch man, resident in Lanzarote, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse, after shooting a hunter's dog with an air rifle in Teseguite.

The events took place on September 1 on La Pardelera street when the dog's owner was going hunting. At that moment, according to the Civil Guard, the now detained man went outside his property and from there shot the dog, which had to be operated on urgently to remove the projectile. According to what the dog's owner told La Voz, it perforated both lungs. In fact, although the animal has already been discharged, he says that it is in a delicate state, not ruling out that it could end up dying.

perro disparo teseguite 2After the events, the Local Police went to the place and, according to the Benemérita, identified the perpetrator of the shooting, also verifying that he lacked the corresponding license required for this type of weapon, so they seized it. In addition, he informed the Seprona of the Civil Guard of the events, where the animal's owner also filed the corresponding complaint.

After that, the Civil Guard proceeded on the 3rd to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the events for a crime of animal abuse, who also admitted to having another compressed air pistol in his possession for which he also had no license. For this reason, this weapon was also seized and a complaint will be processed in this regard, transferring it to the Teguise City Council, which is the competent body to issue licenses for gas weapons and to sanction in this regard, according to what they have explained from the Benemérita.

After his arrest, the alleged perpetrator of the events was released, pending being summoned by the Court, to whom the Civil Guard has already sent the report.
