The Local Police of Arrecife has intensified preventive and surveillance controls this weekend on different key roads of the Lanzarote capital, with the aim of reinforcing road safety and pursuing risky driving behaviors.

The operations, carried out at various points in the city, resulted in the initiation of proceedings for three alleged offenses against road safety related to drivers who were driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages and other serious infractions contemplated in the Penal Code.

In addition, officers processed more than a dozen administrative sanctions for various breaches of traffic regulations. Among the detected infractions are the use of a mobile phone while driving, the lack of mandatory documentation, improper parking, and other behaviors that put the safety of pedestrians and drivers at risk.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, highlighted the work of the Local Police and emphasized that these controls “must be constant” to guarantee safety on the capital’s streets and ensure compliance with the rules.

“Compliance with traffic rules not only avoids sanctions, but saves lives. We will continue reinforcing police presence and preventive controls to reduce risks and improve coexistence in our city,” stated the mayor, who is also responsible for the Municipal Area of the Local Police.

The Arrecife City Council insists on the importance of maintaining responsible driving, especially during weekends, when mobility and the presence of vehicles on urban roads increase.

The Local Police will continue to carry out these preventive operations periodically in different neighborhoods and strategic areas of the capital.
