National Police agents have arrested in Arrecife a 28-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of four counts of robbery with violence and intimidation and one count of theft, committed during the months of September and October in various commercial establishments and on the public highway in the capital of Lanzarote.

The investigation began after several complaints filed by merchants and citizens who had been victims of different robberies, some of them committed by threats with bladed weapons and physical assaults.

The first incidents took place during the month of September, when the alleged perpetrator stole two cash registers with approximately 1,700 euros from a greengrocer's and, days later, took various personal belongings from the owner of a hospitality establishment after pushing him to the ground.

During the first days of October, new robberies of greater violence occurred. In two of them, the suspect used knives to intimidate the employees of two businesses and steal money and a cash register.

In another episode, he assaulted a man inside a building, delivering several blows to snatch his belongings. As a consequence of these events, several victims required medical assistance.

An investigation that allowed the five incidents to be linked

Agents of the Local Judicial Police Brigade of Arrecife, through the Specialized and Violent Crime Unit (UDEV), began an investigation to clarify the crimes and determine if there was a connection between them.

The analysis of the complaints, the images from the security cameras of several establishments, and the identifications made by the victims allowed a single man to be identified as the alleged perpetrator of the five investigated incidents.

Some of the robberies were recorded by the security cameras of the businesses and their images were widely disseminated in the media and social networks, generating concern among the residents of the town.

After various investigative actions, the agents managed to locate the suspect on October 8 in the Argana Alta area, where he was arrested.

During the police actions, one of the knives allegedly used in the robberies was also recovered.

The detainee, who had previous police records for offenses of a different nature, was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, which ordered his imprisonment.
