Agents of the National Police and Civil Guard, in a joint operation, seized another boat with more than 1,500 kilos of cocaine in waters near the Canary Islands, intercepting a semi-rigid boat and arresting the three crew members of the boat. This is the second boat seized by police officers with drugs in just one week.
According to a statement, as a result of joint monitoring and surveillance and thanks to information provided by the General Directorate of Surveillance of the Moroccan Territory (DGST), in the early morning of January 12, 2024, it was detected how a pneumatic boat could be planning to access the coast of Gran Canaria near the coast of Arinaga. That's when the Civil Guard patrol boat Río Órbigo detected the boat, initiating a chase and proceeding to its arrest and boarding.
After the boarding, the three crew members of the boat were arrested and 1,564.5 kilograms of cocaine were seized, which they were transporting in 64 packages. The 64 bales of cocaine and the detainees were transferred to the Port of Light in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, proceeding to the unloading and weighing of the drug, which totaled 1,564.5 kilograms, and were later transferred to the Las Palmas Command, for safekeeping.
The instruction of the proceedings and the detainees were handed over to the Telde duty court, ordering imprisonment for the three detainees. This action is part of the police efforts of both bodies and the good relations with the General Directorate of Surveillance of the Moroccan Territory (DGST) for the preventive control of drug trafficking activity.
