Her name is Carolina Rivera and on Tuesday afternoon she claims she was attacked in Arrecife by a chocolate brown pit bull, which also bit her dog, as she reported to the National Police. "It was horrible," says the affected woman, who suffered injuries to her mouth, hands, and legs, from which she is now recovering along with her dog, who was also injured.
According to Carolina, the events took place at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the dog park located in the Arrecife Theme Park. "I always take my dog there and the dogs are off-leash because their owners know they don't bite, they have them trained. I arrived and there was this dog with another guy's dog, a greyhound, but since I saw they were together, I assumed it wouldn't hurt. I let my dog go and then the greyhound came and started sniffing him to play, but then the pit bull came and suddenly went crazy and attacked him," she says.
Carolina's reaction was to get "in the middle". "Because he was killing him", says this woman, who points out that the pit bull "grabbed" her dog, a poodle, and "started hitting him against the ground". The owner, she says, was "at the other end of the park" and, when he arrived, she was already "lying on the ground" with her dog, "trying to take him away from the pit bull". "But there was no way, not even the owner could handle the dog," she adds.
According to the affected woman, the pit bull was "hysterical and had glazed eyes" and "everyone was watching, screaming, but no one got involved" until, "thank God", the greyhound's owner intervened "after five minutes" and grabbed the pit bull "by the hind legs and lifted them up, like a wheelbarrow". "Although he was still super angry, the dog was already losing strength and at one point when he saw his legs grabbed, the owner trying to open his mouth and me grabbing my dog, he half opened his mouth to grab him well because he was escaping, and at that moment I was able to take my dog away, pick him up and lift him up," she says.
"He didn't have a proper collar or a muzzle or anything"
Afterwards, she says, the pit bull "pounced on her", but "the owner managed to grab him by the collar". "Well, a rope he had around his neck, because he didn't have a proper collar or a muzzle or anything," criticizes the affected woman who, after that, "ran" to the vet with her dog, although "she didn't know if he was alive or dead". "I was crying, screaming, running and full of blood all the way down the avenue until, thank God, I got to the vet, they took care of him and he is more stable now, although he is very sad, under the bed and doesn't want anyone to pick him up," she says.
The pit bull not only bit Carolina's poodle "all over the belly", but also her, who also suffered injuries in the struggle. "I have stitches in my mouth, my hands are destroyed and my legs are full of bruises, but I didn't care what that dog did to me, I just wanted to save mine", details the victim.
The owner of the pit bull "ran away, he escaped", says Carolina, who believes that the dog also bit him. "He must have a scar on his nose," says the affected woman, who has managed to locate the guy who helped her to "thank him". "Because I owe him my life," she concludes.
